Q. How do I use a lavalier microphone?
A. Try to clip the lavalier in the center of your shirt so that when you turn your head you are not completely loosing the audio signal. Keep microphone adjustments to a minimum when the mic is hot to prevent unwanted noise. Keep the lavalier as close as you can to your mouth and try to maintain an even volume when presenting. Insure that the battery is charged and that the lavalier and receiver are on the same frequency.
Tips and Tricks
- When powering on start with the mixer channels muted and turn the speakers on last.
- To prevent large pops when powering off turn the speakers off before turning off the mixing board.
- When moving speakers be sure to remove them from the stands first to prevent tipping.
- Prevent feedback by keeping microphones pointed away from speakers and allow a fair amount of distance between the microphone and speaker.
- Mute the microphone channels or bring the fader down when the mic is not in use or when the microphone is being repositioned.
- Keep an ample amount of slack cable coiled at the base of microphones and speakers in case they need to be repositioned.
- Run cables in low traffic areas and tape down any cables that may pose a tripping hazzard.
- When wrapping cables instead of using your arm and wrapping the cable around it try to follow the "memory" of the cable. Gently twist the cable between your fingures allowing it to go in the direction that is natural.
